xx Team Chivalry Announces CHIVALRY: Battle for Agatha
May 19, 2010, 06:32:29 AM by Kingmaker
Team Chivalry is proud to announce their next project: Chivalry: Battle for Agatha

Chivalry: Battle for Agatha

Chivalry is the next step in first person medieval combat. Team Chivalry is building upon their successful and unique take on deep and responsive melee combat system to deliver an experience that goes beyond Age of Chivalry. Experience the lush countryside of Agatha like never before and take part in a new war that pits Agathian Knights once more against the Mason Order.

More weapons. A more fluid movement system. Character customization. These are just a few of the features awaiting you in a bigger, better, graphically enhanced game. We've already been secretly at work for some time building this game, and we're finally ready to show you some of our progress. Enjoy these screenshots and more over at our new site Chivalrythegame.com

Chivalry: Battle for Agatha is being developed on the Unreal Engine 3 through the use of the UDK. Yes, it's commercial. No, we haven't any idea on pricing just yet. Yes, all of this media shown here is taken in-game.

Where's my CR3!??!
Now for the bad part. Many of you might have been looking forward to the release of CR3. Well, there won't be one - the sad fact Age of Chivalry has been hindered by some limitations inherent in Source and would result in not being able to deliver that content the way we want to. This influenced our decision to move to the UDK and build out better systems and an experience that we want our players to see. Here's what Tibberius, Team Chivalry's lead dev, has to say on the matter:

Quote
The source engine has served our purposes well for a long time and we enjoyed every ounce of work we could put in for you guys on it. We have always strived to make this game the best it can possibly be for our community and many of us as avid players of the game as well. It has become clear in the past little while that the demands of our community can no longer be best met using source engine technology.

We have continued to update our mod since it’s initial 1.0 release on September 10th, 2007. There have been several problems that have haunted us since that release that players have unfortunately to this date not seen improve despite many other aspects of the game improving. These features include hit detection, animation quality/alignment, quality of player models and environmental art, physics, networking, movement and amount of players in a server. We believe that the move to the udk will provide us with the opportunity to create the game we’ve always wanted to- and the one the community has repeatedly asked for. We also believe the ability to have a standalone game will give us the potential to reach a larger audience and therefore also improve your experience of the game.

This is a dream come true for the team, we have had a ton of support for our mod project and we hope you will all join us on our quest to truly conquer the first person melee combat genre. We will be as active as ever on our forums so make sure your voice is heard and that we are heading in the right direction as we release more and more news and media for our new project. Thank you all for the time you have invested into aiding us with Age of Chivalry and know that the project at its heart is moving on. We are one of the lucky few mod teams that get to end a project with a rebirth as opposed to a death so we are very happy with our accomplishments so far and look to the future with a lot of hope and excitement. I hope you are all equally excited about our new project and I look forward to engaging with you all on the battlefield again in the future!

So what do you think? Got a question about the new game? Sound off on our new Chivalry: Battle for Agatha forums.

xx Grand Tournament Wrap-up
May 19, 2010, 05:55:47 AM by Kingmaker

The Grand Tournament was started to gauge our community's level of interest and participation in an official developer-sanctioned event. It went well for the most part and we hope everyone that took part had fun, that's the number one priority with a community event. We're happy with the level of participation and are making plans for our next event in regards to offering a more organized layout. So all you clans out there better keep practicing!

As for the results, clan VOID were declared the champions after an intense final round. Congratulations to them and a hearty thanks to their opponents, Clan Vanquish, for putting up a good fight.

If you are interested in watching the demos of the semi-final and final matches here they are:

Semi-Final:
  • Medieval Mayhem VS VOID #1 #2
Vanquish VS Royal Knights #1 #2

Final:
  • VOID VS Vanquish #1 #2

Alternatively you can download them all here.

What does our new announcement mean for Age of Chivalry?

Plainly put, it means more. Age of Chivalry has accomplished a lot and it's still being played today. It's consistently in the top 100 played games list on steam. There's a lot of life left still left in despite the bottlenecks in development we've encountered. So you can expect more events and more new players to keep showing up. Chivalry: Battle for Agatha is still early in development and we're not about to leave our community without anything to play.

Thanks to all those who took part in the Grand Tournament and if you missed out, keep a look out for our next "grand" event!

xx Grand Tournament Final Weekend Schedule
May 15, 2010, 04:45:10 AM by Tibberius Bane (Bloodseeker)
The finals for the Grand Tournament are this weekend, thank you to all that attended/watched last weekend and stay tuned for more medieval action!

Clan schedule for Semi Finals:

Match 1: MM vs. VOID on Saturday, May 15th at 3pm EST

Match 2: RK vs. Vq. on Sunday, May 16th at 1pm EST

Match 3: Winner of match 1 vs. Winner of match 2 on Sunday, May 16th at 3pm EST

Duel Schedule:
I will be posting the proposed matchups and people will have to contact each other through Steam or post in this thread to schedule their match. To make the match official it will have to have an official in attendance (Kingmaker/Tibberius/Blaine) and be played on aoc_tournament. Just contact one of the refs when both you and your duel opponent are ready to fight and we'll get you setup on a server.

Going forward, this seems the best way to encourage more community involvement with each other and keep the logistics of running this sort of a contest simple. Ideally, we'd like to have this all wrapped up by this weekend, so please try to make yourself available for duels as much as possible this weekend. If this goes well and the community can organize themselves, we'll definitely look at holding more tournaments in the near future. Above all, have fun!

Here are the matchups (click on a name to go to their Steam Profile). Remember, get in contact with your opponent to work out a match time!

We'll be coordinating the tournament via the Age of Chivalry Steam chat and Team Chivalry's new twitter. If you've entered the contest, make sure to make yourself heard and seen on either of those to make sure you're notified of your turn in battle.
